In May 2012, education professor Joe Erickson and psychology associate professor Stacy Freiheit traveled to the University of Ljubljana in Ljubljana, Slovenia to begin work on a proposed spring 2014 travel seminar for Augsburg students.
The seminar, called “The Heart of Europe,” would bring together two Augsburg courses, one each from psychology and education, comparing psychological and education traditions of several central European nations with American practices and history. Though the semester program classes have ended at Augsburg for this academic year, students and faculty are still on the move. Starting on the day after last weekend’s commencement ceremony, groups of Auggies departed both to share their musical talents and to study abroad.

The fourth annual “Creating an Inclusive Campus” conference, which will be held May 22-24 at Augsburg, calls us to ask what this commitment means, to celebrate what we are doing right, and to engage in dialogue about how we can continue to improve.

Augsburg’s Commencement ceremonies this academic year—Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, July 1— are organized around the theme of global peace. Augsburg will welcome peacemakers and leaders to challenge and encourage graduates as they begin their lives beyond college.
During this spring’s student philanthropy week, Augsburg students saved their pennies—and maybe a few 1 and 5 dollar bills—to support The Augsburg Fund and to learn about the importance of giving back.
