Japanese Language and Culture – Mihoko Yamamura

Mihoko Yamamura is a dedicated Japanese language educator based in Texas. With a Bachelor’s degree in Education from a university in Japan, she initially shared her passion for teaching as a high school teacher in her home country. After moving to Texas, Mihoko acquired her teaching certification and began educating students in high schools and community colleges, imparting her knowledge of the Japanese language. She also concurrently began teaching at supplementary schools, further expanding her teaching repertoire to a diverse range of learners.

Mihoko has been teaching Advanced Placement (AP) Japanese courses since 2007 and for her influential role as a member of the AP Japanese Language and Culture Exam Development Committee from 2018 to 2023. In this capacity, she played a pivotal role in shaping the curriculum and ensuring the integrity and fairness of the examination process, thus elevating the standards of Japanese language education.

Since 2022, Mihoko has been sharing her extensive knowledge as an AP consultant, offering mentorship and advice to other teachers, and thus playing a significant role in the educational community at large. Mihoko’s efforts, both inside and outside the classroom, have had an immeasurable impact on students and colleagues alike.

In her leisure time, Mihoko enjoys unwinding through yoga and taking walks, while her weekends are often delightfully occupied with playing and spending quality time with her grandchildren.
