Laurie McDonald has been a mathematics teacher in Jacksonville, Florida for 27 years, the last twelve of which she has taught Algebra 2, Algebra 2 Honors, and Precalculus (Honors and now AP) at Atlantic Coast High School. She has been a mentor to new teachers, served on district curriculum and assessment writing teams, and been a National Board Certified teacher. She has led professional development on a wide variety of curriculum topics, including student engagement strategies, formative assessment, and curriculum and lesson design. For several years, she was also an upper-level math adjunct instructor for Florida Virtual School, working with both Precalculus and Calculus students in a virtual setting.
Laurie has been excited to be a part of this first year of AP Precalculus and looks forward to participating in the inaugural AP Precalculus reading in June. She is passionate about expanding access to college level mathematics for students through this exciting course. She is committed to supporting teachers and students as they grow strong and inclusive AP math programs and is honored to serve as an AP Precalculus Consultant.
Outside of the classroom, Laurie is mom to a 15-year-old daughter who is the light of her life (and will be an AP Precalculus student in the fall of 2024!). As a family, they love to travel and explore new and unique places.
